Why Tallying and Board Feet Calculations are Important?
Generally, unit-of-measure for lumber volume is Board-Feet or Cubic-Meters, in some cases cubic-feet can be used as well. In board feet calculation, 1 Board-Feet equals the volume of a board that is 1 inch thick, 12 inches wide, and 12 inches long. Cubic-meters is calculated by multiplying 3-dimensions, length, width, and thickness in mm or cm, to find the volume of lumber. Sierra DigiTally can calculate both in board-feet and cubic-meters, and convert between the two units on-demand.

Sierra DigiTally is fast and accurate when it comes to tallying lumber; it's based on a "shoot-and-score" method using a scanner with its patented Tally Ruler: Sierra RapidScan.
Eliminate outdated lumber tally methods, here's how you can scan your tallies with Sierra DigiTally and Sierra RapidScan 5-times faster:
- Operator holds the RapidScan Ruler against the lumber board to measure
- Scans the barcode mark corresponding to the width of the board
- All of the following automatically happen at once: (a) width is captured, (b) volume (board-feet or cubic meters) is computed, and (c) piece-count is added, (d) all data is saved.
